So, why should we really care about the feelings of CIA officers, especially if they were breaking the law? Why should we worry that they don’t want to take “risks”? Why should we worry that they might not be able to protect us? They surely did not do a very good job prior to 9-11. And, beyond their rhetoric, veiled in secrecy, there is not really any way to tell if they’ve been very effective since.
I think that the journalists have to start reporting, investigating, and really analyzing these stories, not just serving as shills for the govt. service.
I don’t get it. Its the same as with bankers. Why should we seek to preserve their salaries and jobs? After all, it was their behavior and bad decision-making that helped lead to the contemporary crisis.

I like the ending comment on the subject of the bankers. The answer is that we should not care about their jobs or their salaries. These bankers took high risks ventures in high risk investments, looking for the high return. They lost, and dragged the whole economy down with them. Now they believe that they are still entitled to astronomical salaries. And the media and the government has contributed to this nonsense by reporting that bailouts are legitimate business practice. Here is the way that it should be: If a business fails, a new one will rise to take the latter’s place. Why keep giving money to firms that have already shown that they cannot manage it effectively? When these businesses are given that kind of money it creates inflation, and reduces the purchasing power of everyone elses’ money. The government blaggs the people of this country year after year, day after day, and get away with it.
